DXB Fitness Special: Intro to Activewear

Learn to sew activewear fabric (also know as technical or sports jersey) on a regular sewing machine and overlocker with this Intro to Activewear workshop. 

We will be using the Avery leggings from Helen's Closet. You can choose between two views: the classic look in a mid-rise; or an ultra high-waisted and extra long legs - or mix it up between the two to make it suit your style and comfort.

What will you learn?

We will cut the pattern to size and this time cut our fabric with the rotary cutter (take note of what to bring) to speed up. The simple design, without an outer leg seam, will make the pattern quick to sew. The entire project can be sewn on a regular sewing machine but you are welcome to use the serger/overlocker in a few steps, if you like. Once the pieces are cut, we will assemble all pieces.

We will also learn how to sew a waistband and waistband facing with a fully enclosed and stabilised elastic.

What is included in the course? And what do I have to bring?

We will be using the Avery Leggings from Helen's Closet. You'll get to take the pattern home to replicate the leggings as many times as you like. Fabric is also included in this workshop, you can choose from the following options. Elastic is also included in the workshop fee.

Please bring your rotary cutter and a large cutting mat. The more cutting mats we have, we can piece them together into one massive cutting mat to make cutting easier. 

Level: Advanced

• have completed Intro to Dressmaking, and had a go at Jersey Fabric

• can insert a regular zip and attach a waistband

• understands notches and grainlines

• Very Confident in sewing cotton fabrics, and tried Cotton Jersey and/or drapey fabrics

• can carry out all skills mentioned in previous course levels
