Learn to sew knit fabric on a regular sewing machine with this Intro to Jersey course. If you have never sewn with Jersey before, let me show you the ropes.

Choose between three patterns: Agnes Top by Tilly & the buttons or Lark Tee by Grainline Studio; or the Elm Tee from Sew Over It for your little one.

Agnes is a close-fitting top finished with a narrow neckband. Irresistibly wearable and endlessly versatile, make it with long or cropped sleeves, plain or ruched at the shoulder and scoop neckline or ruched sweetheart neckline.

the Lark Tee is your closet’s new best friend. It’s great on its own or under your favorite button up, sweater, or blazer. All four sleeves are interchangeable with each of the necklines resulting in 16 potential different tees in one pattern!

The versatile Elm T-Shirt, by Poppy & Jazz, is a great wardrobe staple for kids of ages 0-3 months to 6 years. It features three different neckline options and two sleeve lengths, giving lots of variations. The neckband can be sewn either as a skinny or wider width, and there’s also the option to add a handy press stud opening on one shoulder, making the t-shirt even easier to get over wriggly ones’ heads!

All three patterns are great wardrobe staple that you will make again and again!

What will you learn?

In the first session we will trace the pattern and cut your fabric for the top and your pair of undies.

In the second session, we will construct the top, get crisp neckband, sewing sleeves and twin needle or zig zag the neckline and hems.

What is included in the course? And what do I have to bring?

We will be using the Agnes Top pattern from Tilly & the Buttons, Lark Tee from Grainline Studio or Elm Tee from Sew Over It. You'll get to take the pattern home to replicate the top as many times as you like. You will trace of the pattern and tracing paper is included.

Please bring fabric and matching thread. Light- to medium-weight stretch knit fabrics, such as cotton jersey, viscose jersey or wool jersey are suitable for each pattern. If this is your first time working with knit fabrics, we highly recommend Cotton Jersey fabric. Check that the fabric can be stretched crosswise at least 25% wider than its original width.

Fabric Requirements:

Depending on your size and fabric width, the following fabric is required:

Fabric width 1.15m, you will need 1.5m for sizes 1-5

Fabric width 1.15m, you will need 2.3m for sizes 6-8

Fabric width 1.4m, you will need 1.5m (all sizes)

For the Lark Tee, if you are choosing the long sleeves and your fabric is only 1.15m wide, then you will need 2.5m of fabric.

For the Elm Tee, you will need at least 60cm of 1.4m wide fabric.

Take a look at the fabrics I carry which are suitable. Did you know that course attendees get 20% for their fabrics? Check your confirmation letter for the discount code.
